Yvette Bozsik Company: Antigonae

Grand Hall

Bemutató:

Co-production of the Yvette Bozsik Company and the National Dance Theatre

Following their performances of The Magic Flute and Orpheus and Eurydice, the Yvette Bozsik Company staged another large scale opera in the Palace of Arts in 2014. The Company performs Carl Orff’s 1949 adaptation of Antigonae at the National Theatre of Pécs for the very first time.

The musical piece was based on Sophocles’ drama, in which Antigonae’s brothers die by each other’s hands and the king declares one of them a traitor, but against his orders, Antigonae wants to bury him. In the ancient Greek drama morals clash with power, and sisterly and romantic love try to prevail over the law, however, the story ends in tragedy.

The score was composed by Philippe Heritier, who has been composing music for the company for more than 20 years. He re-invents Orff’s dramatic opera with contemporary sound and effects, similar to his Verdi-adaptation for Yvette Bozsik’s Traviata chreography in 2008.
