Tennessee Williams - often called „the writer of lost souls” - wrote his Pulitzer Award winning play: ’A Streetcar Named Desire’ in 1974. It has been succesful all around the world ever since. The protagonist is the weaknerved and tired Blanche who is trying to escape from reality and from her past. Unfortunately there is no magic in her sister’s tiny suburban flat where Blanche arrives with high hopes and just a suitcase. Stella lives here with her husband Stanley, a Polish immigrant, happily married, expecting their first child. The unintelligent, rude man and Blanche with lofty ideas always pretending to be elegant repel each other. Perhaps this repulsion hides their attraction. When the two worlds meet the outcome is jelousy, violence and madness.
