In the 18th century Franciscan monks in Csíksomlyó collected and wrote down all of the mystery plays that their students played for the people on Good Fridays. The works that have been preserved of these, are an important part of Hungarian drama heritage. The remaining plays contain characteristics of mystery plays, allegories, morality plays and parables and also well-known characters such as Christ, Pilate, devils, the bragging Saint Peter etc. The Csíksomlyó Passion Play revives them as if they were today's characters.
The performance keeps the structure of the traditional passion plays that was always a musical genre. The aim is to retell the story of the Passion of Christ.
With Ballet Pécs and the Choir of the Pécs National Theatre.
The performance is played in Hungarian.
